THE MONTH OF JOURNEYS
APRIL - THE MONTH OF JOURNEYS
THE MEANING OF EASTER
This is the month of journeys, the journey that lots of us began for Lent. This year, Lent started on March 1 which was also Ash Wednesday and the after Shrove Tuesday.
The day of Lent changes every year in accordance to the lunar calendar, similar to Easter Sunday, which again is another journey.
Lent is a 40-day fast, so will run up until the Thursday before Easter Sunday April 13, which is known as Holy Thursday. The Lent period reflects when Jesus fasted and suffered in the desert for 40 days and 40 nights, before he started his ministry; a journey in itself.
Easter - The journey of Jesus over 3 days is known as Easter Triduum...
Easter celebrates the resurrection of Jesus after his crucifixion. Christians believe Jesus was crucified on Good Friday and rose again three days later, a journey known as Easter Triduum.
EASTER NEW BEGINNINGS
It's April - we begin to think about Easter, our families, our journeys together as families, of new beginnings and new life.
The introduction of 'chocolate Easter Eggs' is a relatively new idea!
It is thought that the Mesopotamians - an ancient Christian community living in an area roughly covered today by Iraq, Syria and Kuwait - used to stain eggs red to symbolise the blood of Christ.
The eggs would be cracked against one another, the empty shells would be left behind - leaving a symbol of the empty tomb that Jesus left behind.
The introduction of chocolate eggs is a relatively new idea originating in France and Germany, from the 19th century - lucky for us!
Again, thinking about our journey, Easter is currently a "moveable journey" - a date strictly determined by the lunar calendar rather than the normal Gregorian or Julian calendars; which follow the cycle of the sun. This is really significant, we cannot change this, it is a journey we cannot determine, only the cycle of the sun can, it is out of our hands, so we are forced in a natural way to enjoy our journey here, it is out of our control - so let us enjoy our family time together and remember a little part of what Easter is really about...
THE LONDON MARATHON
Our Easter is particularly important this year, as we have a very important journey to watch, that being, The London Marathon.
Joseph, our son, is running his own journey for Headway - The Brain Injury Association, his journey will be probably the hardest journey he will ever do. Being 6'5" he is not built for running, and has never ran competitively before, he is built for rugby!
We are so proud of him. We will be up in London cheering him on, with his girlfriend, Phoebe and with her parents too!

A note for your diary, we will closing the Vintage Boutique on Sunday 23/4/17
Enjoy your Hot Cross Buns with your family...
Enjoy your Easter, think about your journeys however short, long, to and from, wherever they are to and whoever they are with. IT is the journey, not the destination that is the crucial and enjoyable part; although I think that Joseph will be looking towards the end of his journey of 26.2 miles...
Enjoy your month of journeys with us.
We look forward to seeing you here in our Vintage Boutique, our Vintage Workshop and our Courtyard...
Lots of Lovingly Made Love,
John & Trixie - and Charlie of course
